Our Musicians - Susie Gillis
Susie Gillis began her musical studies before she can remember. Initially
taught (or encouraged) by her parents, both musicians, she began her
studies with the violin. After winning first prize in numerous school
competitions and local music festivals her talents where acknowledged
by Berkshire Maestros. Competing against several thousand students,
Susie was awarded a full Scholarship by Berkshire Maestros. Whilst
enjoying the discipline of classical music at the age of 14, Susie
began to study the bass. This gave her the opportunity to enjoy a far
more varied range of musical styles and the chance to play in punk,
metal, jazz, funk, pop, folk, blues and rock bands.
Susie is currently studying music at Kings College, London. She has
played in several large venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Festival
Hall and Birmingham Symphony Hall. She has played for both the Queen
and Tony Blair but prefers rowdier crowds.
